Radnor Middle School 7th-Grader Niles Huang Aced 2013 MATHCOUNTS Delaware County Competition

A top finish in both written and oral countdown rounds for Radnor Middle School 7th-grader Niles Huang earned him the championship in 2013 MATHCOUNTS Delaware County individual competition. RMS 6th-grader Priya Ganesh finished the 9th Place. Niles will again compete in the Pennsylvania State Final in Harrisburg on March 23, 2013. Niles was also the best finisher from Radnor Middle School last year and won individual 3rd place in Delaware County in 2012.

RMS team again took second place overall. Seven RMS students from 6th to 8th grades competed against individuals and ten other teams from middle schools in the area. In addition to Niles Huang and Priya Ganesh, RMS students competed in 2013 chapter final are Dennis Xiao, Ryan Low, Katie Lee and Arch Morrison.The team coach is Dave McGrath. Radnor High School students and former MATHCOUNTS national and state finalists, Bryan Cai and Phoebe Cai, helped coach the team for the 2nd year.

Now in its 30th year, MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes 6th to 8th-grade mathematics achievement. It is one of the country's largest and most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors and students. The MATHCOUNTS Competition Program consists of fun and creative problems that promote critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Local/chapter competitions are followed by state final contests. The top finishers from each state will form the state teams and meet at the MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Washington DC in May 2013. President Barack Obama recognizes MATHCOUNTS winners in White House.
