Main Line Rallies Around Family of Boy Who Nearly Drowned

Last Monday 12 year old Logan Schweiter and two of his friends jumped into the rushing waters of a creek in South Wayne, Radnor Township. Radnor Township Police superintendent William A. Colarulo told Radnor Patch that the boy and two friends were attempting to use swimming pool rafts in the creek in the 300 block of Saint David’s Road. 

Two of the boys were able to pull themselves out. Logan was swept away by the water. In an interview with CBS3 Eyewitness News Tuesday, Logan's mother said he was plucked from the creek, and the jaws of death, by a doctor who was in the right place at the right time. Melissa Schweiter and Dr. Michael Beers both say it was "divine intervention" that a trauma doctor who specializes in pulmonary medicine happened to be walking his dog at that very spot at the very moment Logan was being swept away in the flash-flood.

Melissa Schweiter told Eyewitness News that Beers was able to resuscitate Logan on the scene and get him stabilized before the boy was rushed to Bryn Mawr Hospital. Logan was later transferred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where the CBS3 report said he remained in a coma as of Tuesday afternoon.

Tonight the McDonald's on Swedesford Road in Berwyn will be hosting a fundraiser to help cover the costs of Logan's recovery and rehabilitation.

The event is scheduled to include a car wash and a dinner, with all proceeds being donated to the Logan Schweiter fund. The event lasts from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
