New Parking Ticket Fee, Online Payment Start

Fees for parking tickets are increasing, as is the time period in which to pay it.

A number of changes are coming to the way that Radnor Township handles parking tickets.

Starting Thursday, May 16, the fee for an expired parking meter is increasing from $15 to $20, as was approved by the township's Board of Commissioners for the 2013 fee schedule and budget.

With that, the time given to pay a ticket is increasing from 5 to 10 days. Also, for the first time you will be able to pay a parking ticket online.

Radnor's meter inspectors are currently training to use a new electronic ticketing system that will not require that police staff members enter every ticket in manually as they have done.

The new system also has a photograph function that the inspectors can use in cases that could be disputed, like ticketing a car in a handicapped space or a car parked over a line.

Parking tickets can still be paid in person or by mail, but to pay online go to Radnor.com, where you will find an icon to click to pay a ticket. The payment process is secure, said Rochelle Davis of United Public Safety, which sells software and hardware solutions for parking enforcement.

Radnor's meter inspectors will soon also have new uniforms that will not let anyone miss them. Bright lime-colored shirts and jackets made of light, breathable material will be safer for the inspectors, said Lt. Christopher Flanagan.

Flanagan said he wants people to see them coming—not so they can avoid tickets, but because the meter inspectors are a resource for the public. They can give directions and answer any questions about parking, he said.
