Newly-Formed Church Holds Synod in Wayne

The Convocation of Anglicans of North America is a new denomination that is arising as an alternative to the Episcopal Church in America.

The first meeting of the Cana East Synod of the newly forming Convocation of Anglicans of North America, a new denomination that is arising as an alternative to the Episcopal Church in America, was held May 2 to 4 at the Wayne United Methodist Church.

A synod typically means the gathering of a council of a church.

A start-up congregation of the church, Christ Church Anglican of the Main Line,  has been meeting in Wayne United Methodist Church since November on Sunday afternoons, Rev. Joseph F. DiPaolo, pastor of the Methodist church, told Radnor Patch.

"We have common historical and theological roots, since the founder of the Methodist movement, John Wesley, was a life-long Anglican priest," DiPaolo said. "We have also done a few cooperative services together, on Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday, and may collaborate on some other things in the future as well."

"They are a fine group of folks who are committed to serving our area from a classic Anglican liturgical and theological standpoint, and we are delighted to offer them space and a home here in Wayne, as they seek to establish their congregation," DiPaolo continued. "We are also honored to host their bishop and their inaugural synod."
