Staples in Villanova Closing

The store will close Jan. 4, 2013.

Staples, the office supply store at 789 E. Lancaster Ave. in Villanova, will close on Friday, January 4. (The closing date was moved to the 4th from the 5th, which is published in the photo for this story.)

According to a Staples associate, they have several tables of items that are on clearance. Display models for laptop computers, monitors, printers and tablets are 30 percent off.

I like Staples, and appreciated the convenience of their Villanova store, but I'm not surprised by the closure. I really can't recall when there were more than a half-dozen customers in there while I was getting my office supplies -- and many times, I was the only shopper. Sorry to see them go.

Sorry to see Staples go. It seems that that site struggles, which is unfortunate, as the parking is good. But, as for what could be next? Not a bank branch and not a drugstore and not a cell phone purveyor, please! How about a Wawa?

Not at all surprised. I've lived in Wayne for 23 years, and have seen almost every useful store go, to be replaced by a zillion places where one can buy hostess gifts or high-priced sound systems. The town ceases to be a walking town when you can't run errands and purchase what you actually need. Post office is probably next.

Actually, I've heard rumor that Villanova PO 'to go'. Staples in V was a GREAT location but/and John is correct, not enough traffic to sustain it. Like the Rosemont store area [Borders + drugstore], inside stores, where one cannot see them from the road, is a disaster. To date, how many restaurants have been in that complex? PLEASE, no more banks, coffee shops. I can remember when Caruso had the BOC over a barrel with his grand plans for that site. Seems pretty much like a bust!!!

I am predicting a megaplex including at least 3 banks, a frozen yogurt place, and maybe a cell phone store or two.
