Whiz Kid's Accomplishments:
Katherine Hung is a talented pianist who began playing at the age of six. She was a Grand Prize Winner in the 2011 National Young Musicians Showcase Competition sponsored by the National League of Performing Arts. Katherine performed on the stage of New York City's Carnegie Hall on April 30. This prestigious competition attracted gifted musicians and vocalists from ten states across the country, including California and Oregon. Katherine was also a Gold Winner in the 2011 Young Classical Virtuosos of Tomorrow Competition hosted by the NBS Classical Music Institute. She performed in Philadelphia's Kimmel Center on June 19.
Piano is just one facet of Katherine's life. She is also devoted to the sport of karate. In March, Katherine won First Place in the Weapons Division of the 2011 World Tang Soo Do Association Region 8 Spring Championship Tournament that was held in Phoenixville. She also secured a Second Place win in the Forms Division in her age group. Katherine is a blue-black belt, training to receive her black belt in February 2012.
This twelve-year-old has notable accomplishments in the academic world as well. Last November, Katherine was a First Place Winner in the 2010 Mary Ryan Memorial Essay Contest sponsored by the U.S. Veterans Legacy and the DCIU. This essay contest was open to all Delaware County students in grades six through eight. Katherine received a $200 award and the opportunity to read her essay in front of the Delaware County Courthouse to kick-off the annual Veterans Day parade. In 2006, Katherine was a Merit Scholarship recipient at the Summer Institute for the Gifted held at Bryn Mawr College.

This remarkable seventh-grader is one of the most well-rounded students you will encounter. She is highly motivated, creative, and well-respected by her peers. Katherine has served on Radnor Middle School's student council as a Sixth Grade Team Representative. She is an outstanding public speaker. As a kindergartener, she was featured on WHYY TV12 as a First Place Winner in the regional Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. Katherine still continues her interest in drawing and writing, and a few of her works have made it to publication.
