Community Corner

Radnor, Pa. Resident Benefits by Musicopia

To enhance The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Van Cliburn Tribute Concert at the Mann on August 1st, Jacobs Music Company and the Mann team up to support Musicopia’s Gift of Music Program with a music instrument drive for children and schools. Each instrument donor will be rewarded with two tickets to attend this exciting concert.

Leaders of the Philadelphia music community met at Jacobs Music Company at 1718 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia to launch the music donation program. In collaboration with Musicopia, the Mann is asking guests at this concert to bring used (or new) instruments that will support Musicopia’s Gift of Music program where instruments are refreshed or repaired, and placed in schools with students who are eager to play but cannot afford an instrument. This year, Musicopia has reached an all-time high by collecting over 600 instruments.

Maxwell Chambers, 13, of Berwyn, PA, who has been in the Musicopia String Orchestra for two years and has been thrilled to receive a piano and a violin; Catherine Cahill, President and CEO of the Mann; Denise Kinney, executive director of Musicopia, Chris Rinaldi, President of Jacobs Music Company and Emily Martin, 13, a member of the Musicopia String Orchestra and who lives in Radnor, PA.  Kinney is most appreciative of this effort to build support for the Instrument Drive and said, “I’m really excited to be working with the Mann. Their rich tradition of community engagement, particularly with the region’s youth, is well known. There is an excellent synergy between our two organizations,” she said enthusiastically. “In addition, Jacobs Music Company has been a great community partner. They are drop-off locations for donated instruments at all of their stores.”

In advance of the concert, instruments can be dropped at Jacobs Music Company at 1718 Chestnut Street in exchange for undercover ticket vouchers for the Van Cliburn Tribute Concert. Two tickets will be given to the first 50 people who make instrument donations.
