Bootmobile Visits King Of Prussia Mall

It's not the batmobile. It's the bootmobile.

Did you see a giant boot driving down the road Thursday?

The L.L. Bean bootmobile made a stop at the King of Prussia Mall Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle was modeled after the iconic L.L. Bean duck boot, but on a much larger size. The vehicle is 13 feet tall, 20.5 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. The laces are made from mooring rope and it took a team several hours to lace the boot. The 12-strand shoelaces are capable of towing 106,000 pounds.

The mobile shoe even has its own "boot," or trunk, for storage, so the team can transport all their gear.

If the boot were to be worn by a real person, L.L. Bean publicity material estimates that the person would be 143 feet tall, which is 32 feet taller than the statue of Liberty.

The bootmobile was created for last year's 100th anniversary and it's back on the road this year to promote the outdoors, according to Chris Spinato, with L.L. Bean's Bootmobile team, and try to get more kids outside through its Outdoor Discovery School. The King of Prussia store offers free classes and activities stores, such as basic kayaking strokes, birding essentials and fly casting.

A number of people stopped by the bootmobile to take pictures or play their boot toss game. Some even tried on the giant backpack provided by the King of Prussia store.

  • Saturday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Pleasant Hill Park in Philadelphia for a full day of outdoor adventure with Outdoor Discovery Schools
