Dan's Down Dog and Dash Oct. 20 in Wayne

Villanova resident Kristin Page, an instructor at Verge Yoga in Wayne, last year had never ran a race in her life. But after her neighbor and friend Dan Schultz died from Sarcoma, she said she used the inspiration from Schultz’s brave battle to train for and take part in a triathlon in his honor.

She wanted to help raise money for the local organization For Pete’s Sake, which sends families battling cancer on one-week vacations. “I wanted to raise money for an organization that does something that is so big. This made memories for his children at a time that they needed it,” she said of the family’s trip to Disney Land. 

“Now we can honor Dan, and his kids and his family can be part of the planning and see their dad’s name on the race,” Page told Radnor Patch. All proceeds from Dan's Down Dog and Dash will benefit For Pete’s Sake.

“He faced everyday with a smile and great attitude all while remaining physically active.  He truly lived by the motto: Live life to the fullest,” said Dan’s wife Sue.

“Kristin was one of the many incredibly supportive friends who continued her support even after Dan's death,” Sue said. “The truth is that Kristin was already an inspirational woman before Dan's sickness.   Dan didn't provide her the strength to do triathlons or organize this great event.  She already had that inside her. However I'm sure Dan is honored that it was his life and death that allowed Kristin to recognize this strength within herself and to expand her already generous spirit by helping even more people.”

As for the organization For Pete’s Sake, Sue said “Receiving that gift provided our family with not only a much needed break but more importantly, a week of memories to last a lifetime. In the hours before Dan passed, our children laid in bed with him and talked about some of their favorite memories.”
