Downed Tree Caused Power Outage Wednesday

The Wayne Post Office's lobby filled with smoke.

A tree that fell on electrical lines on Wednesday has caused a power outage in downtown Wayne.

As of 3:30 p.m. about 158 customers were without service in the area, said PECO spokesperson Liz Williamson. Power was expected to be restored by the evening.

At about 12:45 p.m. PECO received word of an outage in area of South and West Wayne avenues because of a tree that fell on lines. Williamson did not know the exact location of the tree, but said it has been removed and crews are on site working to make permanent repairs.

The Wayne Post Office's lobby filled with smoke, but it was fully functional by late Wednesday afternoon. Post master Joe Nugent told Radnor Patch that when one of the electrical lines went out it caused a motor on of the air conditioning units to heat up and burn out.

While there was smoke, there was no fire, Nugent said. The computers in the retail section of the post office did go out for about an hour to an hour and a half, he said, but two of three were up and running by 3 p.m.
