Police: 'No Idea' What Caused Power Outage

Radnor Patch has reached out to PECO for the scope and cause of the outage.

Radnor Township Police Department's Cpl. Kevin Gallagher was on duty Thursday night when thousands lost power in Radnor Township.

Around 8:30 p.m., power went out throughout the area. As of 9:15 p.m., PECO's site reported that there were 1,026 properties without power in Delaware County; 553 of them in Radnor. By 9:30 p.m., although some of those who lost power had it back, Radnor's outage number on PECO's website jumped to 3,234.

Traffic lights went out on lancaster Avenue from Chamounix Road to North Wayne Avenue, where police worked to set up generators to run the lights.

Traffic lights at King of Prussia and Eagle roads and Matson Ford and Countyline roads were also out.

Gallagher noted that the power came back on relatively quickly, just as township employees were helping police set up more generators.

But he said he has "no idea' exactly what caused the outage. Radnor Patch has reached out to PECO for the scope and cause of the outage.

There were no car accidents as result of the power loss, Gallagher said. The only related calls they received were for alarm systems being activated and elevators being out, which is typical for power outages, he said.
