State Police Increase Patrols Over Christmas Holiday

The increased patrols will run from Dec. 24 to 26.

By Courtney Elko

The Pennsylvania State Police will increase police patrols during the 2013 Christmas holiday enforcement period, from Dec. 24 through 26.

During this time, additional efforts will be made to ensure motorist safety, which includes a sobriety checkpoint to be held within the Troop K coverage area.

Troop K covers areas of Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware counties.

Troopers will focus enforcement efforts on DUI and aggressive drivers, as well seatbelt violations, in an effort to get holiday travelers safely to and from their family gatherings.

During the 2012 Christmas holiday enforcement period, Troop K investigated 109 crashes resulting in 25 injuries and no fatalities. Of those crashes, eight were alcohol related. Troopers issued 762 citations, with 194 of that total being for speeding and 55 for seatbelt or child safety seat violations and 32 motorists were arrested for DUI.

Help keep all first responders safe. When approaching an emergency vehicle (fire, EMS, police, tow truck) with its emergency lights activated, drivers must move over to an adjacent lane or, if not possible, reduce speed for safely passing the emergency response area.
