1. The Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble Concert

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Celebrate the holiday at this special concert featuring The Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble with music by O'Carolan, Bach, Mozart and contempory jazz composer Jim Dragoni.  The ensemble is comprised of mandolins, spanish guitar, mandola, mando guitar, mandocello and 12 string guitar. There are two shows, one on Saturday then a Sunday matinee.  Reception and light refreshments to follow.
  • Cost: $15 for church members, $20 for the public in advance, and $25 at the door.

2. Strange as Angels Holiday Show

  • When: Friday, Dec. 28 at 8 p.m.
  • Where:Brownies 23 East
  • Why Go:Throughout the 1990’s, Strange as Angels was the Delaware valley’s first and #1 alternative rock band; setting attendance records and creating a level of anticipation and excitement that transformed the club experience. SAA is gearing up to re-capture the spirit and unique brand of fun that can only happen at a Strange as Angels show. Bring an extra $10 to buy the all new SAA t-shirt, all net proceeds will go to the Red Cross/Hurricane Sandy relief fund.

3. Tot Rockin' New Year's Eve Party

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 29 from 10 a.m. - Noon
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Celebrate the holidays with your young ones at the Community Recreation and Environmental Center at the Haverford Reserve.  There will be music, light refreshments and a variety of games and activities.  Ring in the year at noon with a balloon drop.  Ages 2 - 8.
  • Cost: $10

4. Veteran's Pancake Breakfast

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 29 from 8 - 11:30 a.m.
  • Where: Narberth American Legion Hall, 80 Windsor Ave, Narberth
  • Why Go: This event organized by the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network and the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation will benefit homeless Veterans by hiring them to cook and serve this pancake breakfast.  It will give them confidence and skills they need to rebuild their lives. 
  • Cost: $10 per person, $20 family

5. Family Night Hike

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 29 from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Road, Media
  • Why Go:Hiking under a winter moon is a magical experience. We will learn about which animals and birds may be out at night and look to see if we can spot them. The night concludes with hot drinks, cookies and a bonfire. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.
  • Cost: Pre-registration required; $6 members, $8 non-members
