'Ekphrastic' Poetry Reading on Saturday

In addition to the poetry event, Wayne Art Center will also host a lecture on the benefits of painting directly from nature as part of its Plein Air exhibit.

 

Wayne Art Center's Plein Air exhibit continue to be on display through June 29, 2013, but there will be two special gatherings at the art center to help viewers learn more about various aspects of plein air painting.

On Wednesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. will be a lecture by Marilyn Bauman of the Violette de Mazia Foundation. She will examine the benefits of painting directly from nature and briefly illustrate the beginnings of plein air painting with comparisons of works by the likes of Van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet and others, accoridng to the art center.

On Saturday, June 15 at 3 p.m. the Overbrook Poets and Mad Poets will present an ekphrastic poetry reading, using selected paintings from the Wayne Plein Air Festival exhibition as their subject matter, according to the art center.
