Get Out: 5K Race, Grill Classes, Devon Horse Show, Car and Dog Parades

Check out Patch's best bets for the week of June 1-7.

June ushers in a variety of change-of-pace outdoor events from a 5K trail race and grill classes to the Devon Horse Show and a couple very novel parades. See all of Patch's best bets for the week of June 1-7 below.


Patch's Best Bets for the Week

Where/When:  from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Why Go: Run a 5K trail race through the beautiful Willows and Skunk Hollow Parks in Radnor Township. There will also be a fun run for kids ages 4 and up. Register either online in advance or on the day of the race.  Registration will open at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the run will be used to support the Radnor Conservancy in its mission to support and preserve the natural and historical assets of Radnor Township.
Pricing: $25 adults, $10 children in advance; day-of registration is $30 and $15.

Where/When:  from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Why Go: Join Chanticleer horticulturist Jonathan Wright on a walk through Chanticleer in search of flowers to cut for arrangements. The instructor will demonstrate and discuss techniques for creating arrangements while putting together numerous creations during the class.
Pricing: $18 members, $23 non-members


OUTDOOR GRILL CLASSES

Where/When: The Shipley School at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Why Go: Gather at the grill and learn new recipes and techniques from Chef David Grear of Seasons in this popular summer class that fills up quickly. All profits benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand and The Fight Against Childhood Cancer.
Pricing: $45 per class, $150 for series of four

Where/When: Devon Horse Show Grounds beginning last Thursday and continuing through Sunday. Gates open daily around 8 a.m. and close around 10 p.m.
Why Go: Take part in a Main Line tradition as well as the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. The Country Fair portion of the horse show includes delicious concessions, lots of vendor booths, an art gallery and a giant Midway featuring a Ferris wheel, carousel and game booths for all ages. Don't miss the Devon Hat Contest during Ladies' Day on Wednesday. On Sunday at 12:30, all flowers and plants used to decorate the show will be sold at special discount rates.
Pricing: Tickets range from $5 to $8.


FIRST FRIDAY MAIN LINE CAR PARADE

Where/When: Starting at the courtyard in Suburban Square at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. 
Why Go: Admire sports cars, classic and antique cars on parade and on display. The parade continues from Suburban Square down Lancaster Avenue through Haverford and Ardmore, ending at the Cricket Avenue Lot in Ardmore. Then enjoy the cars up close with live music from Everyday People Band and The Johnny Never Band and enjoy samples from Qdoba Mexican Grill.
Pricing: Free


FIRST FRIDAY AND NARBARK DOG PARADE

Where/When: Corner of Forrest Avenue and Haverford Avenue in downtown Narberth from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
Why Go: Dress the family pooch in costume and parade through the streets for fun and prizes. Enjoy food, music, a pet photographer and pet vendors with free samples. Local celebrity judges will award prizes to owners in a variety of costume categories, including funniest and best child and dog duo. Registration is free. Just arrive and sign in by 6 p.m. at the corner of Forrest Avenue and Haverford Avenue.
Pricing: Free, donations accepted benefitting ARF SEPA, a local animal rescue foundation
