A New Expansion with a Nod to the Past

Although the truck stalled on its first trip around town, it has become a new, cherished part of a longtime business.

Local plumber and fourth-generation Radnor native Alan Epps has always been a lover of cars and their mechanics.

He recently purchased a 1953 Panel Truck at the Hershey Auto Show, driving it in the Wayne Memorial Day Parade and the Garrett Hill Fourth of July Parade.

Epps wanted the truck to advertise Epps Plumbing’s new expansion with a nod to the past. Son Shaun Epps is joining the Epps Plumbing and Heating, Inc., making it a third generation Radnor business. Alan’s dad had started the company in 1964.

The first thing to do was to get it lettered, said Epp’s wife Ellen. Hand-lettering painter Dan Danz did gold leaf hand panted letters, which is usually on fire engines.

The truck’s antique plate came from the late Jim Carson, long time owner of Carson Petit, now EuroMotor Cars Devon.
