Alderfer's Retiring From Lancaster County Farmers Market

The meat and fish purveyor has been in Wayne for 61 years.

After 61 years in business, Floyd K. Alderfer and Sons meat and fish purveyors are closing up shop on June 16.

They have been located in the since 1977; before that they were in the 100 block of East Lancaster Avenue in downtown Wayne.

Denny Alderfer, one of the Alderfer sons, has been running the business along with his brother Keith and their father Floyd.

He said the job requires working for at least 80-hours every week, and now he is ready to take some time off and volunteer.

"The people," he said."And even the work is good."

Alderfer said they are not selling the family business nor its name.

"We've loved doing it. We're leaving on a high note. No regrets."
