Coming Soon to Wayne: Sophie's Cafe

Sophie's Cafe will soon be opening in downtown Wayne.

Wife and husband Sarah and Matt Shore are aiming at creating a "neighborhood cafe" where they will serve breakfast and lunch, and in the afternoons creative desserts and ice cream that their Center City business Scoop DeVille is known for.

Named for their 21-month-old daughter, Sophie's is expected to open in the former Cream and Sugar location in late May or early June. The couple is renovating and redecorating the interior of the cafe, which will have 45 seats.

The decor will be bright and fresh, with a "quirky Parisian vibe," Sarah told Radnor Patch. The fun will really come out in the desserts, they said, including classics like banana splits and root beer floats. But their ice cream creations are what they have been successful with in their Philly shop, which they will be closing to focus on Sophie's.

They have 12 base ice cream flavors (they use Bassetts ice cream) from which you can create dozens of flavors, like Pie A La Mode (vanilla ice cream with apples, cinnamon, caramel and graham crackers) or choclate ice cream with pretzels and peanut butter or vanilla ice cream with sugar cookie dough, Snickers and caramel. All ingredients are mixed together to make a soft serve dish.

The couple, who live in Broomall, also have successful other businesses as well. Sarah is a life coach and Matt is a graphic designer. "We're serial entrepreneurs," Sarah said.

But in Sophie's, "We're looking for longevity. We'll work our fingers to the bone to make it a success," she said.
