Donuts by Day, Ice Cream by Night

The owner says the shop is a 'missing piece of the downtown Wayne experience.'

Donuts and ice cream are coming to downtown Wayne.

Last week Radnor Township's Zoning Hearing Board approved a request for seating at what will be a donut and ice cream shop in the basement level of the Suburban Building.

What used to house the archives of the Suburban and Wayne Times will be the  Wayne Donut Bar by day, and The Wayne Ice Cream Bar by night, according to owner Brad Liermann.

"We are the missing piece of the downtown Wayne experience. Walking from the surrounding neighborhoods to get ice cream has been missing since the Dairy Queen left," Liermann said.

"We intend to be a member of the business community that invests in the families that surround it, specifically by offering kids the opportunity to work and learn to work in a fun business environment," he said. "The ice cream business is one of tight margins and we're not out to conquer the financial world, but we would like to find an appropriate balance between teaching kids the facets of operating a business and interacting with adults, with running an ice cream store that turns a profit."

As the "curator" of the best ice cream and donuts from the region, Liermann sais they will carry a variety of brands of their products.

His hope: "It will be a place to quickly grab a coffee, donut and newspaper in the mornings, and a place for families and friends to spend time together and enjoy great ice cream in an amazing downtown setting by night."
