Dunkin Donuts Coming to Downtown Wayne

The donut and coffee shop replaces Saxbys.

A Dunkin Donuts will soon come to downtown Wayne. It will replace Saxbys Coffee, which recently closed.

No sign indicates when it will open, but there is renovation work actively being done inside the space at 110 East Lancaster Avenue. Radnor Patch will let you know when Dunkin Donuts opens.

Do you think this is a good business for downtown Wayne? Will you shop there? Tell us by commenting below.

Stupid No drive by's, No parking, No profit Store will close in a year, two tops
Jim L November 10, 2012 at 03:41 PM
Why not? They offer the full line of food that all DD's do.
Christopher Merken November 10, 2012 at 04:13 PM
The Gap is a clothing store. There aren't any clothing stores in Wayne that aren't boutiques. That's a different scenario.

For morning commuters there is plenty of parking. And Middle Schoolers don't need parking. It is brilliant!
Carolyn Bowes November 10, 2012 at 04:58 PM
Have you waited forever for your coffee at a badly understaffed competitor? Have you tried the chocolate chip muffins at DD? Let the games begin!
Annie Webb November 10, 2012 at 05:53 PM
Love DD in Wayne. Great coffee, convenient stop for doughnuts for class parties and a great stop for Middle Schoolers after school. I love it. If it makes more foot traffic in Wayne for our other fabulous establishments, it's even better. Another bank? Boo, hiss. I think that's ridiculous.
Flightofabee November 10, 2012 at 06:35 PM
Let's play count the nearby chains: cosi, city sports, chipotle, Anthropologie, five guys, Rite Aid, CVS, Starbucks, Wawa. Looks like a couple clothing stores are in there. The horse is already out of the barn.
Catherine November 10, 2012 at 09:40 PM
The report is DD is trying to open by Thanksgiving. There will be Very little seating inside: it's designed to be a grab and go. I don't mind the idea of a DD in the town center (as long as P&Z is tough on signage) because this is going to be just a sliver of a store. I wish we could say the same about that oversized, plastic/pre-fab Rite Aid that's going ruin the small town, pedestrian friendly aspect of the WBOD.
I Lived Here for 25 Years & Finally Moved Out November 10, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Wawa has fresh donuts 24x7, so having fresh donuts nearby is not a good reason for DD to be in town. Agree with earlier posts that it will be gone in less than 2 years.

AND ONCE AGAIN,, we are getting MORE BANKS and MORE CORPORATE BRANDED RETAIL in Wayne because WE do not, did not, and will not (mostly due to parking) properly patronize the few Mom & Pops which are still left standing. Every time a man buys a pair of shoes on the internet from "Zappos.com",.. its one more nail in the D'Amicantonio brothers coffin. Every book purchased through "Amazon.com" instead of ordering through the Wayne Book Store, tightens the noose on Ed's neck,.. just a bit more. Every time someone buys their chocolates from "Truffles-B-Us", leads Monsiuer Patrick and his wife one step closer to the business end of the guillotine. If you want to keep our traditional Wayne businesses here - and keep the nationally branded retail chains and banks out - then you have to FEED THEM,.. Where you spend your dollars dictates the reality of the business mix of Wayne,.. not public opinion or fantasy. Businesses are like sharks,.. they only thrive where the food supply is,.. cut off that food supply,.. and the shark swims away. If we are not actively supported the Mom & Pops, then we cannot cry when yet another,. Starbuckery w/Drive-Tthru Banking,.. takes its place.

Anothr reason to oppose it. Teenage obesity is an epidemic in ths country and places like this near a school isn't going to help.
Assaggiatore November 11, 2012 at 12:23 AM
"great stop for Middle Schoolers after school"? Do you want the kids in our town to have to spend their summers at Camp LaJolla? Childhood obesity is out of control in this country, but the Main Line so far has gotten of lightly compared to most places.
Assaggiatore November 11, 2012 at 12:26 AM
The Anthropologie in Wayne was the first ever opened so it wouln't really count. All the others had many locations before they came here
Anthony Wayne November 11, 2012 at 12:42 AM
Time will reveal the success factor. I wish them well. Too bad it's not "Suzi-Jo" as we drive to Bridgeport for those, still warm, yum. BTW, time is out on the shoes. The boys will be gone soon they said my last time in. We have shopped there since I can remember and will miss their most excellent service, selection, and humor.
Anthony Wayne November 11, 2012 at 12:51 AM
Obese kids are mostly a parenting problem, not a doughnut problem. How about the state stores and bars? The soda availibility? How about the nine pizza outlets? Should we oppose them too? Why not run for mayor of New York?
Catherine November 11, 2012 at 02:48 AM
Anthony, the D'Amicantonios told you they are going to close soon? I hope they didn't mean it.
The Swell Guy November 11, 2012 at 04:04 AM
CATHERINE - I too am afraid that is the word, as the Brothers also told me the same thing which ANTHONY has reported. The tragically ironic part is, that when the D'Amicantonio Brothers are gone, it will be some Wayne guy who bought his suede bucks on the internet - all to beat the 6% sales tax and parking hassle - so clever he is,.... who will be the first to complain on the Patch about Wayne losing its community and charm to a wasteland of ugly corporate back-lit signage. THEN, and not long after the holiday season,... he can walk his Tax-Free- internet bought suede bucks up to the 'Tiger Shop',.. and hang around Dave A's empty store front and moan about how another 'Bar' will be coming to that North Wayne Ave location and clogging up the sidewalk with even MORE the late-night "Alfresco Drunken Buffoonery". If we want to keep our neighborhood and sole-proprietorships in Wayne, we have to protect Wayne by patronizing them fiercely,.. or say "Good Bye".

Couldn't agree more.

again....couldn't agree more. 'don't know what you've got til it's gone' - Joni Mitchell

Dunkin' Donuts aren't even very good. Long gone are the days when the products were baked fresh in the store every few hours. For years they have been made in central locations and dropped off at the various stores - sort of a hub-and-spoke operation. The "bagels" they now sell are bagel-shaped bread products, not the traditionally made boiled bagel that can be found at places like The Bagel Factory. Wonder how long the location will last.
Catherine November 11, 2012 at 05:16 PM
Gary, this Dunkin' Donuts will operate the same way, I'm told. So, no odor to bother condo owners upstairs...but no fresh doughnut smell or taste either. Wish we could "like" on Radnor Patch -- I would "like" what The Swell Guy and Anthony Wayne had to say. Unfortunately, with the sky high rents landlords are charging -- even with people buying local, few small businesses can survive. So, the big boys take over.
Bill Nut November 11, 2012 at 06:41 PM
y'all know your gonna eat there anyway so why don't you shut up.
Just me November 11, 2012 at 07:14 PM
I'm okay with DD coming to Wayne. Not too concerned about obesity as I haven't really seem packs of overweight kids wandering through our town lately.
BiII Nut November 11, 2012 at 09:47 PM
I meant to write that I love everyone. I been off my medication for two weeks. My mom was at church I broken out of the fruit cellar they keep me locked up in and sneaked on her computer. Sorry for my stinky foul mouth. I never had no date, so i never kissed anyone with it I just angry. I can;t eat DD, it got too much sugar. It makes me do they crazy dance. then i run into the traffic
Paula November 12, 2012 at 05:03 PM
The thing I love most about Wayne is that it has unique stores. I do not want any more chain stores, including Dunkin Donuts.
H. Thomson November 12, 2012 at 08:12 PM
Really, Wayne, get over yourselves! "Unique" in Wayne translates to overpriced. I'll take Dunkin Donuts reasonably-priced, good quality coffee and doughnuts over any of the "boutique" coffeehouses in town anyday. I'd love to support the mom-and-pop stores more that I do, but, frankly, for the most part they are just too expensive. As for the obesity epidemic, thats a parent issue. Deal with it at home and there wouldn't be a problem.
travon black November 12, 2012 at 09:30 PM
Dunkin Donuts use to be located next to Mickey D's and Codys light shop, also had a long John Silver fish joint.
The Swell Guy November 12, 2012 at 09:51 PM
H. THOMSON - I congratulate your honesty in what you say about wishing to patronize the Mom & Pops more than you do, thanks for that. I also applaud your candor in revealing you PRICE RESISTANCE, being the reason why you do not - fair enough, However, surely you must realize that it is a PROVEN SCIENTIFIC IMMUTABLE LAW that we - as "WAYNE" cannot "GET OVER OURSELVES", that's why we all live here in the first place, and rarely move LOL! OBVIOUSLY, you didn't you read former-Radnorite author, Dan Brooks', insightful self-commentary on us "WAYNE FOLK" in his award winning book: 'BOBOS IN PARADISE',.. or you would not have expected so much from us LOL! Pssst, it's available from READER'S CHOICE BOOK STORE on good old N. Wayne Ave,.. at popular prices,.. at least while Ed can remain in businesses.
travon black November 13, 2012 at 11:51 AM
Ask the Radnor Police who has the best Donuts!
Anne Condello December 12, 2012 at 12:51 PM
A mom and pop doughnut shop would be wonderful if any of us locals would be willing to get up at 3 am and bake. And a mom and pop shop could thrive if the commercial rents were a little more affordable. Just saying.
