Global Gifts Closing in Wayne

The shop that features "fair trade" goods made around the world by disadvantaged artisans has been in Wayne for 12 years.

Global Gifts, the "fair trade" gift shop, is closing after 12 years in Wayne. The store will be closed by the end of January.

Owner Rosemary Smith told Radnor Patch that she is retiring from the business, but is passionate about the cause of helping people around the world support themselves and learn trades.

"We're just oblivious of what we have and others don't," she said. "We're just not aware."

Right now everything in the store is selling for 50 percent off. Deeper discounts may come as the end date draws near, Smith said.

Smith said her primary goal was always "to help people in Third World countries who struggle to eat on a daily basis and raise awareness about fair trade. It's a form of trade as opposed to aid. You're helping people help themselves."
