Ithan Market Marketing to the Masses

The Villanova shop will be selling its famous chicken pot pie in stores around the region.

The Ithan Market will soon be selling its famous chicken pot pie to the masses.

The Villanova shop has just produced 1,000 lbs. of its chicken pot pie that will be sold in stores all over the region, possibly including Whole Foods in Devon.

Marion Greene, who owns Ithan Market with her husband Jim, created the recipe for her chicken pot pie about 12 years ago, and it has been a favorite of customers ever since. Greene told Radnor Patch that she had never made the dish before and created her recipe becuase they had a lot of leftover rotisserie chicken to use.

The Ithan Market has been in business for 50 years.

To be able to sell their product in other stores, which sell in 2 and 6 lb. packages, the chicken pot pie has to be made in a USDA-approved facility. It has been a complicated process, but the Greenes are excited to bring their dish to the next level. The photo on the packaging was done by The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr.

Greene said that both families and individuals like the chicken pot pie. It has the fat content that may be expected of the dish, but she said that the sodium content is much lower than other similar products.

The chicken is antibiotic-free, as is the lard, and un-enriched flour, so it is technically "all natural." There is 21 grams of fat, 9 grams of saturated fat, 65 mg of cholesterol, 520 mg of sodium, 42g of carbohydrates, 2 g of fiber, 5g of sugar, 20g of protein.

Percent of daily values - Vitamin A 25%, Vitamin C - 6%, Calcium - 10%, and Iron - 15%.

The Greenes said they may next try to sell their shepherd's pie en masse.

This is my favorite product of the Ithan Market. Although I like their fresh sandwiches, meats, and soups I especially like their Pot Pie! It has a wonderful crust, that literally melts in your mouth! It's delicious! As much as I like the pot pie's crust, I like its velvety sauce. It's filled with crunchy and fresh vegetables. I also like the pure chicken, that is wonderfully tender. I think everyone should give this wonderful Pot pie a chance. Congrations Ithan Market!!

My family and I believe Ithan Market Pot Pies to be the tastiest and most nutritional on the market to date. I give them to my elderly neighbors,I bring them when I visit families instead of a bottle of wine.Everyone loves them. And I must say everyone is always so pleasant at the market. Its so refreshing to have a neighborhood store where you can find so many wonderful homemade dishes.I stop on my way home from work, beside pot pies, many varieties and excellent meat and chicken butchered right there as you wait.We also order our Holiday meals with such helpful assistance from Jim and Marion.

Do you expect people to bow to you, and wait on you hand and foot upon arrival? Good people, and often times very busy

Fantastic news! Couldn't happen to a nicer couple. Marion and Jim follow in the great footsteps of Mary and Joe . . . always great food and pleasant conversation. Their pot pies and sticky buns are phenomenal!
