Kembrel Closes Wayne Shop

The company vacated at the end of their shorter-term arrangement in order to recenter their business focus within the city.

Kembrel, the Center City-based shop that rotates their merchandise from small designers in Philadelphia and New York every week, has closed its Wayne location.

The company vacated at the end of their shorter-term arrangement in order to recenter their business focus within the city, where they have two stores, said Brad Palmer, an owner of The Suburban Building, where the shop was located for six months.

The 1,400-square-foot space is available for rent.

Coming soon to the basement of the building at 134 North Wayne Avenue will be Wayne Donut Bar by day, and The Wayne Ice Cream Bar by night.

"We are the missing piece of the downtown Wayne experience. Walking from the surrounding neighborhoods to get ice cream has been missing since the Dairy Queen left," owner Brad Liermann told Radnor Patch earlier this year.

"We intend to be a member of the business community that invests in the families that surround it, specifically by offering kids the opportunity to work and learn to work in a fun business environment," Liermann said. "The ice cream business is one of tight margins and we're not out to conquer the financial world, but we would like to find an appropriate balance between teaching kids the facets of operating a business and interacting with adults, with running an ice cream store that turns a profit."
