Meet the Next Generation of John's Village Market

Brothers Bill and John Vesper are growing the business their father started 35 years ago.

Bill and John Vesper practically grew up in their parents' Wayne deli, John's Village Market, which is celebrating 35 years in business.

After the twin sons of owners John and Beverly Vesper graduated from college, they both decided to stick with the family business, running the John's Berwyn location.

But they wanted to grow the business even more. They were already making delicious pasta sauce for the family's delis, so they thought they should package the product and build a bigger brand, Bill told Radnor Patch.

It took two years from the conception of the idea in 2010 to getting on store shelves in 2012. Named Vesper Bros. Foods, the company sells tomato sauces, marinated mushrooms from Kennett Square and locally-made pasta.

Their products are being sold at all Philadelphia-area Whole Foods markets and in 40 independent and specialty markets. Bill and John are the sole employees of Vesper Bros. Foods—they do all of the deliveries, sales and demos. They can often be found giving samples at Whole Foods Market in Devon.

The company's co-packer uses the family's proprietary family recipe for the company's tomato sauce. The recipe comes from their grandmother Rose. So now instead of Rose making her sauce for dinner, the boys just drop off cases to her home.

Bill said their parents have always been supportive of them. And so have John's customers who have known them since they were children, John added.

"They feel a connection, a pride in our products," he said.
