On June 30, Crêperie Béchamel will mark one year in business on Louella Court in Wayne.

For year two, owners Jennifer and Patrick Yasaitis will be adding new items to the menu as well as catering options and trays of homemade sweets.

The new items will include a balsamic and Brie crêpe with grilled chicken and caramelized onions; a lemon chicken crêpe  and a peanut butter mousse crêpe with chocolate sable cookie crumble. They may also add a fresh fruit option as a side.

The crêpes are actually more substantial than people think, Jennifer said. The “Harvest” crêpe, which contains grilled chicken, spinach, shitake mushrooms, goat cheese and a lemon white wine sauce, has been their most popular item.

So, what has changed over the past year for the couple, who went into the business for the first time together?

The food and the service are much better than when they first opened, Pat said.

He also said that each of them excels in their own area, so they complement each other and rarely clash. “We’re both very passionate about the food. We always come to an agreement in the end.”

Pat said owning the crêperie is much more fulfilling than his previous work in finance. “It’s much better to make people happy with food.”

Children love the crêpe and especially love watching them being made, Pat said. “You feel like a rock star making them in front of them,” he said.

Many people with French background also eat there, a big compliment to the food, Jennifer said. “We have a lot of regulars, which I’m proud of,” she said.

The food at the BYOB is fresh and made to order. “We have gotten faster, but have not taken any shortcuts,” Pat said.
