Vote For Best Hoagie in Radnor

Vote in this week's Patch poll.

Some call it a "sub" or a "grinder," but around here, it's called a hoagie. Radnor Patch wants to know who serves up the best hoagie in Radnor.

Is it , , at Lancaster County Farmers Market, , , , , , or ?

Vote in the poll below and don't forget to click on the links above and rate each place on its Patch Place listing. You can even leave a review.

Or is there another local spot that we missed? Then tell us in the comments section below. Polls will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Winners will be determined by a new set of rules. We've implemented a point system in which the actual votes here will now account for 50 percent of the decision. How highly each business or location is rated on its Patch Place listing will account for the other half.

John's Village Market is by far the best! No contest!
Allen May 17, 2012 at 08:11 PM
I went to John's in the 80's! They've been around since I was a little kid, even before! They're the best by far!
Allen May 17, 2012 at 08:12 PM
John's was the originator of hoagies on the main line. Before 1978 when John's Village Market opened there were NO hoagies on the main line. They were, and are still the best, almost 35 years later.
VBF May 17, 2012 at 08:32 PM
Definitely John's Village Market. They have the best hoagies and always have!
John May 17, 2012 at 09:31 PM
John's is by far the best there is!

Johns Village Market is a Wayne landmark...no matter what this poll ends up with (WaWa!?? Is anyone really taking this poll seriously!?) Johns will always be the hoagie king in Radnor! Our family only goes to Johns!
Bill May 18, 2012 at 02:25 AM
well said George! totally agree!
mitch miller May 18, 2012 at 03:04 AM
Johns by a landslide, even if the votes don't show it.

Why is this even a contest?! You can't judge this accurately based off of a web poll. Go into the neighborhood and anyone you see will tell you Johns has the best hoagies around!!!
James May 18, 2012 at 04:12 AM
John's is by far the best, it's a real hoagie place, no BS. Does anyone remember Tozzi's? That used to be the best, it was sad when that closed.

I think that if someone is researching the best hoagie in Radnor and they come to this post, they will read the passionate votes for John's and that will mean something. More important, so will the positive reviews at it's directory listing: http://radnor.patch.com/listings/johns-village-market.
Allen May 18, 2012 at 12:28 PM
John's has been around since 1978, and they're still the best! Other places, many other places, have come and gone, but John's is still going strong. They're a mainstay, and a true institution on the Main Line. When you think of Wayne, PA, you think of John's. They were around way before Wayne would become a hotspot for foodies in our area. They deserve some real points for that!

Okay....Wawa could satisfy, if you were in a crunch, and every other shop was closed....did I see that someone puts pesto on a hoagie??...seriously??...I'm not saying it wouldn't make a good sandwich, but I just don't see it as a real hoagie condiment....John's is the best on the Main Line...nothing fancy, just d@mn good hoagies all the time...no seeds on the roll, no special spreads...just great hoagies the way they were meant to be...they've been around for so long because they really are that good!!
Allen May 18, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Totally agreed JRH! Well said.

JasonStogaGen May 18, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Never heard of Antonellas, sounds like they make ok sandwiches, but there's no way they can touch Johns! Just stop in Johns and you feel like you're going back in time..and the sandwiches have been the best for as long as I've been alive, are still the best and always will be e best!
antonella May 18, 2012 at 01:35 PM
Hey Jason, thank you. a husband-wife run shop in garrett hill since 1996. we are quiet and exclusive but we have rec'd numerous best hoagie and best take out on the main line awards by MLT. And ironically we were also voted Best Kept Secret a little while back. We like to keep it mom and pop as long as possible while still trying to reach the growing demands of our custmoers. Hope you will come by to visit soon. We love our neighbors.
Allen May 18, 2012 at 01:50 PM
THE John, of John's Village Market is still at John's EVERY day, and his wife STILL makes the sandwiches! I don't think I've ever gone into John's in Wayne and didn't see John, and his wife. The other locations are run by their 2 twin sons, and their daughters used to work, and I think still do, in the stores also.. Talk about a family business. Still the SAME owners after 35 years, and they're STILL in their stores every single day... You just don't find that anymore these days...
Sam Strike (Editor) May 18, 2012 at 01:59 PM
It sounds like John and his wife would be great subjects for my "Meet the Owner" feature on Radnor Patch.
JRH May 18, 2012 at 02:15 PM
hats off to you for this classy post....there is always room for individuality...tell you what, next time I'm in town I'm going to swing by for a hoagie...maybe even that pesto one!...just don't tell the folks over at John's :) ...have a great day!

My Mom (Antonella) is in the kitchen now making some of her awesome dishes (secretly hoping theres some left over sausage scallopini) . Haha. My brother's in the front making hoagies with my dad and im delivering! Love working with the fam :) Also, Congrats to all the villanova grads this weekend! They have us working hard!

It looks like Antonella's pulled out a victory: http://radnor.patch.com/articles/antonella-s-wins-heated-hoagie-battle So, Antonella's, tell us what is the BEST hoagie you make, for those who might want to try your food.
antonella May 18, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Sam, that was quite a poll! It never ceases to amaze me how passionate customers can be about their food. I thank my many customers who participated and also applaud John's customers for their hard work. But alas, whether winner or not, we are all fortunate to continue to do business in our wonderful Radnor Township thanks to our dedicated customers. Per your question: Tough to say which is our BEST hoagie, as we offer 40 variations... But if I had to pick, ( from our traditional hoagie selection ) it would be our Italian Hoagie - with Prosciutto, Genoa Salami, Cappicolla, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato & Olive Oil. From our "Hoagies Their Way " menu, I would say the "Al Conicella" is very popular. Prepared w. Grilled Chicken, Roasted Peppers, Romaine, Tomato & Honey Mustard. A real winner - probably because we grill our own chicken breast then slice it down to order. We also slice our lunchmeats to order and use roasted peppers and pan seared long hots instead of jar or can peppers. Ooh la la - delish! Thank you again Sam for bringing the polled businesses to the attention of the many customers - whether new or old.
antonella May 18, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Yes you do! I am glad I got the chance to hear about you guys. Funny how wonderful lil places sometimes get missed. I didn't even know about you until this poll. We will certainly have to stop by soon to say hello. Ray and I often like to venture out on a Fri nite to get a late nite bite after a hard day's work.

I'm with you, Sheila - Landis is the best!
