Wayne Book Store Now Accepting Used Book Donations

The Reader's Forum has been struggling to fill its shelves.

These are not "the best of times" for the Reader's Forum, the beloved independent book store in downtown Wayne.

With money tight and publishers demanding payment for shipments up front, the store's shelves have not been full for the past few years. Although they still sell new books, owners Ed Luoma and Al Willis have decided to flesh out the shelves with used books.

Any amount of books on any subject will be accepted; just bring them into the store.

"I've learned that some people are very happy to find a ratty old copy of a classic they’ve always been meaning to read," Luoma told Radnor Patch. And, "I did not expect how many people would come forward with books."

Although it's not the ideal situation, Luoma said he hopes this new idea will help the bookstore generate more revenue.

Also new to the bookstore is an event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. A local book group will be hosting a wine and cheese party. It's open to the public (as the store always is) and anyone is invited to attend, Luoma said. He's hoping that the trend will catch on with other book groups.
