Celebrating Independence Day in Garrett Hill

Scenes from the Garrett Hill-Rosemont Independence Day Parade and celebration.

Even though nearly everyone at Garrett Hill's Fourth of July Parade was wearing red, white and blue, it was obvious who was in the parade and who came to watch. Those standing on the side of the road were not a 7-foot 7-inch version of Uncle Sam, nor were they riding in a wagon decorated as a helicopter. They were also not riding in classic cars or fire trucks. However, everyone who came to watch or participate in the Garret Hill-Rosemont 4th of July Celebration was feeling patriotic and in the mood for a great time.

Following the parade, which featured fire trucks, step teams, decorated wagons and bikes, car clubs and bands, the crowd migrated to Clem Macrone Park where the Bryn Mawr Rotary Club had set up post-parade festivities. The Rotary Club offered several stands from "spin-art" to races for children, as well as the obligatory Fourth of July food and drink. Even though the parade had ended by 11:30 a.m., the festivities continued until 2 p.m.
