Coroner Rules Overdose of Villanova Student Accidental Death

Matthew Ainsworth was 21 when he was found dead March 26.

The Montgomery County coroner said Monday a Villanova student who was found dead in his Bryn Mawr apartment on March 26 was determined to have died of combined drug intoxication. 

Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman said the toxicology results of the 21-year-old student, Matthew Ainsworth, revealed alcohol and oxycodone in his system. Benzodiazepines were also found, he added.

The manner of the overdose death was ruled accidental, Hofman said.

Ainsworth was  at about 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26 by his roommate in their 801 Montgomery Ave. apartment. Ainsworth’s roommate had not stayed in the apartment that night and found Ainsworth fully clothed on his bed upon his return to the room, Lower Merion Police Capt. Bill Boegly said in March.

Ainsworth was a dual major in chemical engineering and French at Villanova, and he was .
