Elegant Homes and Dirt Roads

At this time the homes, their grounds and fences were brand new and pristine but the roads were not.

Today we continue our series of highlights from the George W. Schultz photo album, which documents many scenes of early Wayne and St. Davids.

This photograph of early North Wayne shows the homes at 129, 131 and 135 Walnut Avenue. At this time the homes, their grounds and fences were brand new and pristine, though a more modern convenience, paved roads, were still in the future. The roads were so dirty (and muddy when it rained) that pedestrians crossing the street walked across wooden planks to get to the other side.
