Excessive Heat Warning in Effect Through Thursday

The Nation Weather Service added that the heat will continue at least until Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Philadelphia area through Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather service warned that heat indexes, which reached close to 100 degrees Tuesday afternoon, could go as high as 105 degrees by Thursday afternoon.

Although the advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. on Thursday, the alert added that Friday is also likely to see a high heat index, predicted to go up to 110 degrees in the afternoon, and that an advisory “will likely need to be extended.”

Those who remain outdoors for more than a short period of time could suffer from heat-related illnesses. The NWS recommended drinking plenty of water, staying in air-conditioned locations and checking on elderly relatives and neighbors as a precaution during the excessive heat.

It further recommended that anyone who might be outdoors for a long period of time should schedule frequent rest breaks in cool and shaded areas.
