1. The 2011 Delaware County Summer Festival at Rose Tree Park starts June 15 and runs through August 14 at the park, 1671 N. Providence Road in Upper Providence. It features free performances Wednesdays through Sundays starting at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of two morning concerts for children. Read more about it .

2. Summer time means travelling for many people, including the dozens of New York City children who stay in homes along the Main Line. Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund has provided more than 1.7 million inner-city children with the opportunity to spend time out of the city. The Main Line area trip dates are July 15 to July 25 and July 25 to August 1. For more information on how you can make summer special for a Fresh Air child, contact Catharine Williams (610) 212-0471 or The Fresh Air Fund at (800) 367-0003.

3. On May 27 and May 28, Declan Carbury, a member of the Radnor Fire Company, and his teammates from Radnor High School competed in the Scholastic Rowing National Championships in New Jersey.  Teams from Florida to Canada were invited to compete based on their results at a qualifying regatta held earlier in the season. In a strong race with the fastest time of the weekend (4:55.42), Radnor’s V4 won their first Scholastic Championship.

4. The Kelly Drive cyclist who tried to save a police officer whose car drove into the Schuylkill River on Tuesday attended Villanova University. Read about him here.

5. Radnor Middle School sixth graders from teacher Jodi Sabra’s language arts classes have raised more than half their goal amount for their pen pals in Uganda, who are sorely in need of a latrine for their school. But they’re not done. With Wayne’s Club La Maison, they are holding a Zumba-thon and swim party/family barbeque June 10 from 5 to 8 p.m., with all proceeds going towards the Ugandan pen pal project.
