2. U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07), who represents Radnor Township, issued this statement yesterday regarding the Budget Control Act of 2011, which was scheduled for a vote yesterday afternoon:

“Throughout the debt limit negotiations, I have consistently pushed for a responsible solution. I have also said that we need to make immediate cuts and we need to be open to raising revenues through tax reform. This bill isn’t perfect, but it may be the last, best hope to get a firm, long-term handle on spending and prevent the risk of a default or economic crisis like we saw in 2008. It is time to end the partisan politics and be responsible leaders.

“This week I’ve heard from hundreds of my constituents, and I’m as frustrated as they are. Getting our fiscal house in order is Congress’ job. The partisans on both the far left and the far right need to put down their swords and put the good of the country, American jobs, and our credit rating, first.

“We should not be going to the brink on critical issues like our economy and our debt. It only increases the risk of economic crisis, default, downgrade, and huge losses for retirement funds, workers’ pensions and 401(k) plans.

“I urge the Senate to take up the Budget Control Act or pass its own plan, so that leaders from both parties can hammer out a final proposal that we can pass as soon as possible.”

The Budget Control Act of 2011 will immediately cut $917 billion in discretionary spending over the next 10 years, while allowing for a $900 billion debt limit increase. This bill also establishes a Joint Committee responsible for creating at least $1.8 trillion in additional spending reductions.

3.   Wayne Art Center has revamped its web site.

4.   Main Line Today magazine has published its “best of” lists for the year, many of which are in Radnor. One of the critics’ picks is for best after-dinner drink, which they found to be Matador’s Flaming Spanish Coffee.

They write: “Prepared tableside, Matador’s hottest conversation piece combines freshly brewed coffee, Kahlúa, brandy, Bacardi 151, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set ablaze and topped with vanilla whipped cream, this attention-getter is half dessert, half cocktail, complete heaven.”
