Five Things to Know Today -- Tuesday

Colleges' building projects; art center exhibit; helping stop suicide; fall classes starting; and new clinical director at Plan of Pa.

1.   The ’s annual “Faculty Exhibition” will be on display from September 12 through October 15 in the Davenport Gallery. Featuring work by the center’s faculty members and workshop instructors, the exhibition will include paintings, drawings, and other works on paper, fiber arts & sculpture, jewelry, and functional as well as decorative ceramics. The public is invited to view the exhibit and meet the center’s faculty at an opening reception to be held on Saturday, September 17, from 4 to 6 p.m.

2.   A resolution declaring Sep. 4-10 to be Suicide Awareness Week in Delaware County was presented by Councilman Andy Lewis to members of the Delaware County Suicide Prevention and Awareness Task Force. A candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 9, in Rose Tree Park by Survivors of Suicide, an organization of persons who have lost loved ones to suicide.

3.   Wayne-based PLAN of PA, which provides private care management, planning and financial services to adults with mental disabilities in Greater Philadelphia, has promoted Melanie Lapierre to the position of Clinical Director. She replaces Nadine Hoch, who retired in July after 14 years of service and leadership with PLAN.  Lapierre, who grew up in Massachusetts and now resides in Philadelphia, has been working as a Care Manager at PLAN since 2006 and has more than 10 years of experience in the mental health field. In June, she received her Master of Social Work degree from University of Pennsylvania.

4.   and will appear in front of the Radnor Township Planning Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday for projects on their respective campuses. Eastern will construct a 3-story Student Union Building. Cabrini is proposing to construct three parking structures.

5.   Local organizations like Main Line School Night and Wayne Art Center are starting fall courses now.
