Five Things to Know Today -- Tuesday

Parenting on the Main Line; two art exhibits; Radnor Police hiring; and shopping to beat cancer.

1. On Sunday, September 25, parenting expert Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg will launch a new parenting education series sponsored by Main Line Reform Temple and the Middleton Center with his talk entitled “Building Resilience in Today’s World.” Dr. Ginsburg will discuss the research behind his new book, “Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens in the 21st Century” at 6 p.m. at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church and is free and open to the public. The monthly “Parenting on the Main Line” series will feature local educators and counselors who will address a variety of themes throughout the year. 

2. The Main Line Unitarian Church Visual Arts Group is hosting a “Select Show” made up of members of the Philadelphia/Tri State Artists Equity who will submit work for jurying by area artist Frank Hyder. Those selected will then show a small body of their work in the Fireside and McGinness Rooms of the Main Line Unitarian Church from September 17 through October 16. There will be an opening reception for the “Select” Artists on Saturday, September 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. This event is open to the public.

3. The presents “The Journey of Life,” an exhibition featuring work by the Philadelphia Arts Connection from September 17 through October 15 in the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery. The Opening Reception will be Saturday, September 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a musical performance by the Wayne Art Center’s Shannon Lee, music instructor on violin accompanied by Duane Large on guitar. The Philadelphia Arts Connection is a network of Korean American artists residing in the greater Philadelphia and New York areas.

4. will be hosting a shopping event that will raise money for breat cancer research. It will take place on Wednesday September 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. and the vendors participating are donating a portion of their sales to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. 5. Radnor Township Police Department has announced that a competitive examination will be conducted by the Radnor Township Civil Service Commission to establish an eligibility list from which candidates may be certified for possible probationary appointment as Radnor police officers. The 2011 starting salary for a newly appointed Police Patrol Officer will be approximately $ 56,964 per year. Full salary Police Patrol Officers currently receive a base salary of $75,953 and a benefits package that includes a retirement pension, according to the police department.
