Flags Raised As Delco Council Celebrates Military Branch Birthdays

Delaware County Council will fly the flag of each U.S. military branch in the Media Courthouse courtyard on dates near their respective founding.

Delaware County Council gathered at the Media Courthouse courtyard flagpole before it's meeting Tuesday, June 7, to kick-off a celebration of U.S. military branch birthdays.

Bob Dimond, a U.S. Army infantry veteran of the Korean War, joined Council Chairman Jack Whelan and Council Vice Chairman Christine Fizzano Cannon and  Councilmen Andy Lewis, Thomas J. McGarrigle and Mario J. Civera Jr. in the courtyard of the Delaware County Government Center and Courthouse complex to commemorate the anniversary of the nation’s first military branch, the Army, which was established on June 14, 1775.

Dimond is executive director of the Delaware County Veterans Legacy, which sponsors the annual Media Memorial Day Parade and the Delaware County Veterans Day Parade. He is Commander of Smith-Howard Post 93 American Legion in Media.
