What is being done?

In addition to preventative tree pruning and some selective tree removal, PECO will install a new type of aerial cable that is resistant to tree damage. Some utility poles also will be replaced.

Why is PECO performing this work?

We have determined that neighborhoods in the townships listed above have experienced more frequent tree and vegetation-related power outages over the
past three years.

How will these projects impact customers?

Broken tree limbs, fallen trees and other vegetation that come in contact with electrical equipment cause about one-third of power outages each year. Routine tree pruning can decrease the number of tree-related outages customers experience by about 40 percent and shortens the duration of outages if they do occur. The installation of this type of cable has been shown to significantly decrease the number of outages that occur and improve electric system performance for customers.

Where tree work on personal property will be required, PECO will contact property owners in advance. We will conduct this work during normal business hours and will work to minimize the effect on the local community. PECO will navigate traffic around the work area during regular working hours.
