Scene on Oak Lane

This picturesque scene in North Wayne is of Oak Lane shortly after the first building operation at North Wayne was completed.

Today we continue our series of highlights from the George W. Schultz photo album, which documents many scenes of early Wayne and St. Davids.

This picturesque scene in North Wayne is of Oak Lane shortly after the first building operation at North Wayne was completed. At right is the home known as "Oak Lodge," at 310 Oak Lane. On the left is the carriage house of Oak Lodge, which was built a few years after the home and was designed by the young architect Lawrence Visscher Boyd.

Boyd would design other Wayne buildings, yet he was not to be as prolific as his older brother, David Knickerbacker Boyd, who designed the Wayne Hotel, Saturday Club and many other famous Wayne landmarks. Oak Lodge still stands, as does its carriage house, which has been enlarged greatly for conversion into a home. The stone pillars beside the driveway still stand as well, though the sign on the one shown here that reads "Oak Lodge" was long ago removed.
