The End of the Line

The Philadelphia & Western Railway once terminated at the western edge of Radnor Township.

The Philadelphia & Western Railway, a portion of which today still operates as SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line, once terminated at the western edge of Radnor Township. The end of the so-called "Strafford Branch" of the P&W (which exists today as the Radnor Trail) was this old farmhouse.

Railroads commonly re-used existing buildings as stations, and this house happened to be in the right place for the P&W's use. It was located on Morris Road near Old Sugartown Road, about where the Wawa parking lot is today. After about three years, the P&W would abandon this building and extend the line to terminate at the Strafford Pennsylvania Railroad Station.
