Wayne Business Association Leading Clean-up Saturday

To participate, meet at the war memorial at 8:30 a.m.

From the Wayne Business Association:

Business and student volunteers will be busy on Saturday morning as they clean up Wayne in anticipation of the following weekend’s Memorial Day Parade.

The Wayne Business Association (WBA) has declared Saturday as “Wayne Clean-Up Day”. A crew of volunteers will be making a clean sweep of the parade route on Lancaster Avenue starting at 8:30 Saturday morning.

Anyone is welcome to join in. Meet at the war memorial on South Wayne Avenue at 8:30 a.m.

“We are delighted to have two great student groups volunteering to help,” said Jack Brooks, a member of the Board of Directors of WBA who is coordinating the event.

“We have student volunteers from the Valley Forge Military Academy that are members of the National Honor Society and younger students from the Community Service Club of the Radnor Middle School,” he said. “Everyone is excited to spend the morning doing something good for our town.”

Since its founding in 1939, the mission of the WBA has been to promote the business, professional, and civic interests of the whole community. Activities are funded by a combination of sponsorships and membership dues.

“This spring the WBA Board was approached by Valley Forge Military Academy offering the National Honor Society students for a community project in Wayne. The Board of the WBA thought it would be wonderful to have the students, WBA members, and other volunteers spend the Saturday before Memorial Day sprucing up the town in anticipation of one of the great American institutions, the Memorial Day Parade,”  said Brooks.

The idea grew even larger when the Community Service Club of the Radnor Middle School joined in. Soon Wayne businesses stepped up with offers of T-shirts, cleaning supplies, and other additional support. Just last week Christopher’s Restaurant offered to supply the crew with hotdogs and drinks at the end in appreciation of all the hard work.

“I think it goes to show that Wayne is not too far away from the fictional town of Bedford Falls in It’s a Wonderful Life” said Brooks.  “We have business men and women in the WBA that recognize by being a member of the community, serving the community, and preserving the local business community itself is a worthwhile endeavor. I hope the community appreciates that by shopping locally, you support these hard working business owners and in return better the whole community and the things that make Wayne great.”
