Wayne's Opera Star

Today would have been the 79th birthday of Anna Moffo, the Metropolitan Opera star who grew up in Radnor. The daughter of Italian immigrants, Moffo was born in 1932. Her father was a shoemaker who operated a shop in downtown Wayne. Moffo practiced her vocal talents at Radnor High School (where she was valedictorian of the class of 1950) and perfected them at the Curtis School of Music. She became a star in Europe in her 20s, and even hosted an Italian television show for 13 years. After decades of singing and acting as a Board Member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Anna Moffo died in New York  City in 2006. She is remembered as one of Radnor's most successful natives, and in 2006 was inducted into the Radnor High School Hall of Fame.
