I've been living in Radnor for over 20 years, and the actions of the School Board have not been of particular concern to me until the last several years. But when my astounding tax bill arrived again this year, I compared it to what it had been 10 years ago, and I was shocked. Then, I saw that the School District generated a $4.7 million surplus, the fifth in five years!! And the surpluses have totaled $20 million.  Now I'm shocked and angry.   The people we elect to the School Board control the size of these bills.  I asked Susan Michaelson, a neighbor and friend who's currently on the Board, what was going on. She told me that she and only two others have fought vigorously over the past few years to stop these unnecessary increases and to give us a meaningful tax decrease, but they haven't had enough Board votes to do it.  The other six members of the Board simply don't seem to care.  They say cutting taxes will cut programs.  Susan has convincingly described how this is not the case, that cutting taxes will just eliminate the surpluses.

Susan is running for re-election on November 5th, and I am certainly voting for her.  I'm also voting for her like-minded running mates - David Falcone, Martin Heldring, and Jim Link - so together, they can replace those on the School Board who apparently just don't get it. Like everyone, they all care a lot about the quality of Radnor schools, but Susan and her running mates are the only ones who also care about how much more taxpayers are being charged than the School District needs. If Radnor voters are as concerned and outraged about their school tax bill as I am, then I hope they will get to the polls on November 5th and vote for Susan Michaelson and her team.
