Happiness

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude.” - Denis Waitley

Isn’t that quote a novel idea...”live each minute with love, grace and gratitude”. Why is this so hard to do in our society? The media and the influx of bad news? I think that can be a major contributor. This week there was some really good exciting news that actually brought love and grace into our harsh society. Prince William and Kate having a baby was felt around the globe, people are generally very happy for this lovely couple. As I was leaving the White Dog, after having an amazing four hour birthday lunch with one of my dear friends, on CNN live was the breaking news report: “The newest Royal has been born, he is healthy and Mommy is doing wonderfully”. We all were smiling, cheering and happy! Why can the birth of a baby to a family most have never met, and never will, bring such joy?

I think it is because after William’s birth to Princess Diana and Prince Charles, he has been in the spotlight and not as a “bad boy” or as a pompous royal. Prince William has shown us that he was born to Royalty and privilege. Money will never be one of his problems. Though he has had to deal with one of the worst tragedies a child would ever have to: endure the loss of his Mum when he was very young. He has had to come to terms with this  terrible loss in front of cameras and strangers and remain very stoic in the process. As Royal as he is, he is still human and someone’s son and now husband and Dad!!!

Watching William put his baby in the car, get behind the wheel and drive his family home was just awesome!!! He is a man in charge of his family and he is going to take care of them and be the man of his house. After all, he married a commoner. Why? Because he loved her! He got the best of his Mum, (not only her looks) her heart, love, grace and gratitude!

I for one would love to emulate those qualities and I am working on it, just being a nice and good person who loves and has gratitude. Why is it hard? Life isn’t easy. But, to have joy for a stranger gives me hope that we all have it: love, grace and gratitude. Now the challenge is to bring it to your everyday life!!! Take time to be grateful and love...it feels so good! We all have proven that we can do it for strangers; now we need to do it for ourselves.
