Judgement

Judgement

Real magic in relationships means an absence of judgment of others.

Wayne Dyer

I find it so interesting how judgmental we are of others and more importantly how judgmental we are of ourselves. Human beings in my opinion judge themselves more harshly than anyone. The comments that run through our brains about ourselves are sometimes mean. In fact, at times I think the things we say to ourselves are things that we would never say to a friend, child or even our pets!!! Why is that?

We have been conditioned to judge ourselves from when we are children. I know as a parent I have said to one of my children if not all three, “What were you thinking”? That is the question that gets us thinking, “oh, my goodness what was I thinking? There must be something wrong with me, I am so stupid!!!” This is where it begins when we are children and continues with us during our developmental years and as adults.

How do we stop it? First, off by being kinder to ourselves. Where do we get the right to judge? Why are we so hurtful? The definition of judgment from Dictionary.com is: the ability to judge, make a decision, or form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, and wisely, especially in matters affecting action; good sense; discretion: a man of sound judgment. The key word in the definition is opinion, our opinion is the way we look at something, an opinion is not cast in stone. Why do we see ourselves as bad rather than good? I understand if you are doing something that is morally wrong to judge yourself harshly but when you are brutal when you have done something very minor is insane! We need to change our thinking!!!!
