Looking Back at Wayne's Rite Aid

Last week, Wayne's Rite Aid left its 127 West Lancaster Avenue location after several decades. The building, first built as an Acme market in 1949, was once shared by both Rite Aid and the Colonial Village Meat Market, as seen in this undated photograph. Rite Aid occupied the west half of the building, and the large tower originally adorned with lighted letters spelling out "ACME," was topped with a lit Rite Aid logo. Eventually the pharmacy and convenience store took over the whole building, and even added an extension on the west side. As reported on Patch, 127 West Lancaster Avenue is to become a pet store, following the relocation of Rite Aid to the former Blockbuster/Taco Bell location at East Lancaster and Aberdeen Avenues.
