Greater Philadelphia Symposium on Haitian Service

Main Line Unitarian Church is hosting the inaugural Greater Philadelphia Symposium on Haitian Service on Saturday, June 23, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This event brings together groups and individuals now offering support and assistance to the Haitian people.

The Symposium will allow area groups to share their experiences, articulate successes and challenges, and form connections with others working to provide aid to the people of Haiti. Organizations that have had long-term projects in Haiti, including St. Joseph’s University and the Presbytery of Philadelphia, can help guide newly-formed groups, such as members of Main Line Unitarian Church’s congregation, who traveled to Haiti in January 2012 on a JustWorks service trip organized by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in collaboration with the Papaye Peasant Movement.

Other groups slated to participate are Delaware Valley College Rooftop Gardens, Hope for Haiti, and The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Each group will give a brief presentation, and there will be time for roundtable discussion and planning. This exchange of knowledge will hopefully inspire even more passion and collaboration from the Philadelphia area for the Haitian people.
