Common Core expert to speak May 20

Are you down for the education revolution known as Common Core? Dr. Peg Luksik, an expert in the field, will discuss the implications for students, teachers, and parents on May 20 in Newtown Square.

Before I got the notice about the community meeting on May 20th where education expert Peg Luksik is slated to discuss the implications of Common Core on our Radnor students, teachers, and parents, I had only the sketchiest idea about the program and its impact on how our children will be taught. A few hours of online reading later, my level of understanding – and concern – had risen considerably.

I won’t attempt to make a case one way or the other in this space about how Common Core is changing – for good or for ill –  the educational paradigm here in Radnor, but one thing is certain:  it has solidified state and federal control over the process, and the particulars, I believe, warrant close attention by all township residents.

The meeting will be held on Monday, May 20th at 7 p.m. at The Knights of Columbus Mater Dei Hall, 327 N. Newtown Street Road (Route 252) in Newtown Square. I  plan to be there, and encourage my fellow Radnorites to join me. Please call 610-572-3442 for more information or questions.
