It's a Great Day to Shop

Summer is here in all its glory. With temperatures expected to rise into the upper  90’s this week, the next few days are being touted as the hottest yet this summer. Ugh!

Well, as I say, when the weather gets tough, the tough go shopping (or something like that).

Here are some local shopping centers that will keep you well dressed, well fed and cool – not a bad way to spend a summer afternoon.

Here is this week’s Five on the Line:

1.     Haverford Square – Located on Lancaster Pike in Haverford, Haverford Square has something for everyone in the family.  Grab your vacation bathing suit at Cameo, a hostess gift at Patricia Adams, a sport shirt for Dad at Jos. A Bank and then reward yourself with lunch at Du Jour!

2.     Eagle Village – Located in Wayne, the former Spread Eagle Village has transformed itself since it first opened in 1979.  The Shops of Eagle Village include jewelry, home furnishings and fashion retailers, as well as a variety of specialty shops. Stop in A Taste of Britain for a scone or browse Valley Forge Flowers and pick up plants for your garden, a gift for your friend, and treat yourself to lunch. Now that’s one-stop shopping.

3.     Suburban Square – Situated in the heart of Ardmore, Suburban Square has over three dozen shops, plus a half dozen dining options from which to choose. And that doesn’t include the more than dozen shops in the Ardmore’s Farmers Market.

4.     King of Prussia Mall – The granddaddy of them all with 400 hundred stores and three food courts, the KOP Mall is a destination stop in and of itself. Whether you’re shopping for jewelry at Tiffany & Co. or Claire’s, you’ll find something for everyone at all price points. (Except books, which is another story for another day.)

5.     Small Town, USA – While these shopping centers are great, don’t forget our local neighborhood stores. Up and down the Main Line, small towns such as Wayne, Bryn Mawr and Malvern have a variety of specialty shops and restaurants to enjoy. Park your car and wander in and out of these great local shops (but don’t forget to pay the meters). Support your local small businesses this summer and pick up that perfect, one-of-a-kind outfit or gift.

Full disclosure – I am not being paid by any of these shops. As I mentioned at the beginning of my series, Five on the Line, these are just suggestions and tips that I’ve accumulated from my years of living here. If anyone would like to add suggestions/opinions, please comment. I’d love to learn more about this great area we all call home!
