Selling a home the old fashioned way.

Does going door to door still work?

I recently hosted an open house in a charming section of Bryn Mawr. It happens to be one of my personal favorite parts of the area and as I contemplated how to get the word out about the open that Sunday, I decided I would get some exercise and walk door to door, distributing invitations to the neighbors.

Two ninety degree days and 200 homes later, the seller had the benefit of his entire neighborhood aware of his home for sale.  Along the way, I spoke with several people engaged in yard work or playing with their children, and they genuinely seemed surprised that in this age of Craig’s List and social media (which of course I used as well!) there are still agents out there, like many in my office, who will go the extra mile (literally!) to get a home sold.  I was offered water, and lemonade, and even sat down with a 50 year resident on her porch and chatted for a while.

That Sunday, a couple from the neighborhood who were renting stopped by and expressed strong interest in the property. It still remains to be seen if they will buy it, but the power of getting out into a neighborhood on foot shouldn't be underestimated.
