The quiescent Westover Park

If you have ever sat at the intersection of E. Conestoga and Upper Gulph Road in Strafford, you may have noticed a sign for one of Tredyffrin Township's many parks, Westover Park. This land, the site of the old Pennsylvania Fireworks Display Company (which had one huge, final, fireworks display one day) was purchased by the township in 2002, and it was subsequently determined at some point that it would be a neighborhood park for the residents surrounding it.

I have driven by the park hundreds of times and never had a clue what lay beyond the sign. I was thinking as I drove by it in my travels for work once again, that if I wonder about what is behind the sign, other people might too.  So today, I stopped. Although, there is no parking, so I should say I "pulled over".

My first thought as I walked past the sign was that I was the first visitor this park has seen in quite awhile (besides, perhaps, some mischievous teenagers).  There is a good sized lot of land that would be perfect for a playground set and some picnic tables.  There are two paths that bring you to Rt 30. There are quite a few trees and on this sunny day it was a pretty place to be.

My curiosity satisfied, I left thinking that Westover Park could be a great meeting place for the children and parents in the surrounding neighborhood.  Hopefully soon the township will start to develop the park which will only increase the charm of streets like Homestead Road.
